HYPOSPADIAS

What is hypospadias?

Hypospadias is the term used to describe the condition in children wherein their penile opening is not located at the tip of the penis. It may be a little lower, at the mid shaft or sometimes even at the base of the penis. Frequently, it is associated with a chordee or a bent looking penis.

The operation consists of at least 2 stages. The first stage is called release of chordee. This involves re-arranging penile skin and tissue to correct the shape of the penis and straighten it out. The second procedure is creation of a urethra to make it reach the tip of the penis. This is usually done 6 to 12 months after the first procedure.
