Double Eyelid Surgery for Oriental Eyes

Also known as East Asian blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), double eyelid surgery is a cosmetic procedure for creating a crease on the upper eyelid of individuals who were born without the same. As its name suggests, it is a popular procedure among East Asians, most of whom naturally appear to have single-lidded eyes.

The surgically created crease will be visible when the eyes are open, giving the eyes a bigger and more energetic appearance. Naturally, individuals who avail of this procedure have eyelid folds that are positioned too close to the eyelash origin, such that they run parallel to it and disappear when the eyes are open. Thus, the purpose of the procedure is to create natural-looking folds that are farther away from the eyelash origin as to make them more prominent when one opens his or her eyes.

Double eyelid surgery is a generally safe procedure, provided it is performed by a trained plastic surgeon. Otherwise, there may be some danger of being exposed to certain complications. An added advantage of entrusting the procedure with trained physicians is having natural-looking results, which stem from said physicians’ expert skills and vast understanding of facial anatomy and proportions.
